During interior decoration, many consumers have a vague distinction between wall tiles and floor tiles, and most people think they belong to the ceramic series. In fact, indoor tiles are divided into wall tiles and floor tiles according to the paving location. Strictly speaking, wall tiles belong to ceramic products, and floor tiles are usually porcelain products. Their physical properties are different. There are great differences between the two from the selection of clay ingredients to the firing process. The water absorption of wall tiles is about 10%, which is several times higher than that of floor tiles with water absorption of only 1%. Wall tiles (wall tiles for short) are suitable for the facade decoration of toilets, kitchens and outdoor balconies. Sticking wall tiles is an effective way to protect the wall from water splashing. They are not only used for walls, but also for the edge decoration of doors and windows. It is also an interesting decorative element. Used for decorative wall tiles at the skirting line. That is, the wall base is beautiful and protected, and it is not easy to be dirty by shoes or the feet of tables, chairs and stools. Ceramic tiles used in pools and bathrooms should be beautiful, moisture-proof and wear-resistant. Floor tile is a kind of floor decoration material, also called floor tile. Made by firing clay. Various specifications. Strong quality, pressure resistance and wear resistance, and moisture resistance. Some are glazed and have decorative effects. It is mostly used for the ground and floor of public buildings and civil buildings

(I) wall and floor tiles cannot be mixed:

indoor tiles are divided into wall tiles and floor tiles according to the paving location. The floors of toilets and kitchens should be paved with floor tiles with low water absorption, because the floor will often be washed with a large amount of water, so that the tiles can not be affected by moisture and absorb stains. The wall tiles are made of glazed pottery with high moisture content, and its back is generally rough, which is also conducive to the adhesive to stick the wall tiles to the wall. Floor tiles are not easy to stick firmly on the wall. Wall tiles will absorb too much water on the ground and become difficult to clean. It is obvious that wall and floor tiles cannot be mixed

(II) laying of floor tiles and wall tiles

leveling before laying

the base course should be cleaned before tiling. If there are decorations such as lime paste, emulsion paint, wallpaper on the wall, or dirt on the ground, it must be cleaned up, otherwise the cement mortar will not bond firmly with the base course; In addition, if there are cracks in the wall itself, it should be properly handled before tiling, so as to prevent the cracks in the basic structure from becoming larger in the future, resulting in the cracking or falling off of the wall tiles; In addition, the cement wall surface should be roughened, and the ground and wall surface with too large difference in flatness or verticality should be leveled with cement mortar

pay attention to the laying sequence

the floor tiles should be pasted from the inside out. If there is a slope or floor drain on the ground, pay attention to slope making according to the drainage direction; The wall tiles should be paved from bottom to top. For the sake of beauty, the tiles at the bottom should be pasted later. Press the floor tiles after the wall tiles are pasted. If there is half a brick, try to put it below. In addition, one wall cannot be pasted to the top at one time to prevent the tile from collapsing due to its heavy self weight

wall tiles should be fully soaked

wall tiles have a high moisture content, which must be taken into account when pasting. Before tiling, the base course should be fully watered and wetted, and the tiles should also be soaked in water for at least 20 minutes before use. Otherwise, the moisture in the mortar will be quickly absorbed by the dry base course and ceramic tiles and set rapidly, which will affect its bonding fastness. Wall tiles will also absorb water from the cement, making the cement unable to act as an adhesive. In addition, the water absorption of each brand of wall tiles is also different, which depends on experience

(III) choose ceramic tiles carefully. Several key points should be kept in mind when choosing ceramic tiles

1. When choosing ceramic tiles, pay attention to their glaze crack resistance and strength. Ceramic tiles of good quality have low water absorption. However, ceramic tiles with poor glaze crack resistance, low strength and high water absorption are prone to irregular fine cracks on the surface after paving, which is commonly referred to as late cracking, or fragmentation and spalling. Therefore, when choosing, consumers can drop water on the back of the ceramic tile and observe its diffusion degree. It is better to absorb water slowly

2. Pay attention to whether the surface of the ceramic tile is flat and whether there are uneven pinholes. When shopping, you can tap the tiles to listen to whether the sound is clear. The more crisp the sound, the higher the density and hardness of the tiles. Hard objects can be used to scratch the surface of ceramic tiles. If there are scratches, it means that the glaze is insufficient. When the glaze on the surface of this kind of ceramic tile is polished, it is easy to hide dirt and difficult to clean

3. Compare the color difference. If the tiles have obvious color difference, the decoration effect will be affected. Due to the large number of ceramic tiles purchased, it is necessary to sample and compare each package of products to observe the change of color difference. Generally, those with large color difference cannot be selected

4. Check the specifications and dimensions. Ceramic tiles with large size and flatness errors will not only increase the difficulty of construction, but also have a poor effect after decoration. The common size of floor tiles is 400 ~ 600mm square, sometimes even 1000 × 1000mm wide floor tiles. The size of the floor tile should be selected according to the size of the space. Large size cannot be used in small space, otherwise there will be a sense of incompatibility. Generally, floor tiles with larger size can be selected for living room and other spaces, while 300 ~ 400mm floor tiles should be used for kitchen, bathroom and other spaces, but attention should be paid to skid resistance, wear resistance and easy cleaning
